Marina Mabrey has released a statement for the bizarre activity on her X (formerly Twitter) handle. On Sunday, the Connecticut Sun guard uploaded an Instagram story addressing the issue, including the disrespectful comment on teammate DiJonai Carrington's tribute post.
Mabrey shared a post from her agency's Instagram story, informing her 127K followers on Instagram that her X account was hacked and that she was not responsible for the activity on it in the last 48 hours. The agency also said it was working with the X team to get Mabrey back into her account.
On Saturday, DiJonai Carrington paid a tribute to her grandfather on her Instagram stories. She uploaded a collage of her pictures with her grandfather, accompanied by a heartfelt message in the caption of her upload.
"Thankyou for all your prayers over the last few weeks," Carrington wrote. "He fought so hard and through so much pain. My only solace is knowin' that he can now rest in peace with grandma and the Lord. I'll never have to right words to express what he means to me. Really my guy fr. & never missed a game in phx from a kid to the WNBA.
"Thank you for fighting so I could be by your side for your last days on this earth. My heart is just broken, everything is broken but I know God is a God of love and I have to hold onto that."
A fan shared Carrington's post on X, where Marina Mabrey's account posted an inappropriate comment, writing "a**."
WNBA fans were quick to react to Mabrey's comment as they flooded the comments sections with their opinions.

The WNBA is in the offseason right now, and it is a time when many players move overseas to play in different basketball leagues to earn some extra money. Many stars like Chennedy Carter and Nika Muhl have already moved to play overseas, but DiJonai Carrington and Marina Mabrey are staying behind.
Carrington and Mabrey are some of the players who are staying in the U.S. to play in the inaugural season of the 3x3 basketball league, Unrivaled. On Nov. 20, Unrivaled had its first unique draft where several players were selected for the six teams. Mabrey will be playing for the Phantom BC while Carrington will don the jersey of the Mist BC.
