Caitlin Clark has been everything that fans expected her to be in her first full season in the WNBA. Taken as the first pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft after her performances at Iowa, the 2024 Rookie of the Year seemed to have always known what she wanted. It is evident from a resurfaced clip of her showing her teasing her commitment to the Hawkeyes two years prior to her official commitment on November 12, 2019.

Applying her trade at Dowling Catholic High School in Iowa during high school, Clark was a sensation during her time in West Des Moines. A post-match interview from her sophomore year in 2017 has circulated on X (formerly Twitter) where she speaks to an interviewer after a match against the Holy Angels basketball team.

Clark can be heard answering multiple questions regarding the match, her time in the USA camp, and her family. But it is the interviewer's question about her college commitment that catches the eye as he asks if Clark would go to Iowa and specifically the Hawkeyes, to which she states (via @Sticks2Mini2rs on X):

Although a very casual affirmation, Clark did end up going to the Iowa Hawkeyes two years later and left the institute as their best player ever. Winning multiple awards including the Naismith Player of the Year Award, Clark was unable to win the NCAA championship, falling short twice in the Finals.

Despite being unable to crown her team as the NCAA champions, Clark became a cult hero in Iowa, with her No. 22 being retired by the Hawkeyes when she left the college for the WNBA in 2024.

Caitlin Clark will reignite college rivalry in the first game of the 2025 WNBA season

After the schedule for the 2025 WNBA season was released on Monday, it was revealed that Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will take on Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky for their season opener. The two stars have been battling it out at the highest level since college and have carried this rivalry into the WNBA.

While Clark was taken as the number one pick of the 2024 WNBA draft, Reese was picked by the Chicago Sky as the seventh pick and since then, both women have gone on to break multiple records in the league.

Reese and Clark's rivalry kickstarted during the 2023 NCAA season as the Hawkeyes and LSU reached the Finals of the NCAA Tournament. Both players were key pieces in their respective teams and were held in high regard by the media and fans. The back-and-forth battle between the two made the Finals the most watched NCAA women's game of all time and shattered viewership records.

While it was Angel Reese who triumphed over Caitlin Clark in the Finals, this rivalry has now transitioned to the WNBA. The pair battled it out for the Rookie of the Year Award last season and it was Clark who triumphed this time.

Now facing each other once again during their team's season opener, it will be an interesting match, as the once-fierce college rivals kickstart their rivalry on May 17.
