The Minnesota Lynx dethroned the New York Liberty on Tuesday as WNBA Commissioner's Cup champions. On the back of strong performances from Bridget Carleton and Napheesa Collier, the Lynx eked out a 94-89 victory. Minnesota overcame the hosts' superior edge in rebounding, particularly on the offensive end, to walk away with the win.

Breanna Stewart had another superb outing along with Sabrina Ionescu. Jonquel Jones' struggles, however, were a big reason the Liberty couldn't defend their home court and title. Jones was shackled by Minnesota's defense, forcing her to miss all three field-goal attempts in 34 minutes.

Minnesota Lynx vs. New York Liberty Game Summary

The Minnesota Lynx opened the game with a bang, quickly leaving the New York Liberty behind. Stewart and Ionescu, however, refused to let the visitors out of their sight by leading a fiery first-quarter closeout run. The Liberty grabbed a 27-23 advantage after 10 minutes.

The second quarter was another seesaw battle between the two best teams record-wise in the WNBA. They traded points, but Minnesota won the quarter 24-23. The game lived up to expectations with end-to-end action. New York held the edge, holding a 50-47 lead as both teams exited for the halftime break.

A defensive slugfest prevailed in the third quarter between the Lynx and the Liberty. The Lynx limited the Liberty to 10 points while putting up 19. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton's two free throws with 49.1 seconds remaining tied the game at 60-60 before Minnesota dropped a 6-0 run.

The Lynx added four more points to start the fourth quarter to take a 70-60 advantage. Breanna Stewart closed the gap by scoring nine straight points but the Liberty couldn't overhaul the lead.

In the end, Minnesota held on to walk away with the Commissioner's Cup trophy. Napheesa Collier was named the MVP.
