The Seattle Storm made a major announcement today, stating that Gabby Williams is back with the team, ending her free-agency status. The French-American forward made a huge impression during the 2024 Paris Olympics while leading her squad to the gold medal game against Team USA.
After the dramatic run, Williams was showered with praise, which prompted fans to wonder if she'd make it back to the WNBA. The Storm didn't waste time, and nearly a week after the league resumed action, they brought Williams back to the roster.
Williams reacted to the news on X by sending a two-word message to the fans.
"missed yall 🫶🏽," she wrote.
Before finding her way back to the W, Williams was named the Best Defensive Player in Paris and selected as one of the best five players at the 2024 Olympics. Her new deal is for the rest of the season, and she'll join the Storm next week.
She averaged 15.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game with France, helping them secure a silver medal in a thrilling game against Team USA.
After being selected as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft, Williams spent three years with the Chicago Sky until a controversy caused the team to trade her to the Sparks.
This will be Williams' third season with the Storm following her tumultuous exit from the Sky and subsequent trade from the Sparks. During her first campaign with the team, she played 36 games, averaging 7.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.
In 135 WNBA contests, Williams averages 7.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She shoots 42.3% from the field and 75.1% from deep.
Angel Reese tried to recruit Gabby Williams to the Chicago Sky
After such an impressive performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Gabby Williams caught a lot of attention. Angel Reese jokingly tried to recruit her to the Chicago Sky, but Williams didn't entertain the idea.
She suggested they could play together for a different team before stating the Sky 'did her dirty'.
"they did me dirty girl,😫 but i am still you’re biggest fan," Williams wrote last week on X.
The Storm boasts a 17-10 record, good for third in the Western Conference and fifth in the WNBA.
