New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart was a guest on Saturday's episode of WNBA on ESPN with Hannah Storm. She talked about how she shares her success with her family.
Stewart was asked how her three-year-old daughter Ruby reacts to her career. Stewart then shared that Ruby gets excited whenever they drive past the Barclays Center.
"Anytime we drive past Barclays, she says 'Mummy, you're basketball!'" Stewart said.
The three-time WNBA champion also talked about how she felt winning a title in her home city, New York. She also discussed how she has managed to juggle her professional career and family, acknowledging that it has been difficult but crediting her spouse, Marta, for helping to bridge the gap.
Stewart and Marta, a former professional basketball player, got married on July 6, 2021, in a lavish ceremony. They have two children Ruby (born in August 2021) and Theo (born in October 2023).
After signing with the New York Liberty in free agency in 2023, she helped them win their first and only WNBA championship in franchise history. She finished the regular season with 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
Breanna Stewart opens up on threatening homophobic email received by her wife
On Oct. 15, Breanna Stewart spoke to Malika Andrews on NBA Today, addressing the report of her wife, Marta Xargay Casademont being threatened. She revealed that her wife got the email after her team lost Game 1 of the WNBA Finals to the Minnesota Lynx.
"It came after the Game 1 loss. Sometimes, people are taking things too far and out of context and Marta had gotten homophobic death threats," Stewart said.
Last season, the WNBA authorities had to deal with a rise in racism and other forms of abuse to players on social media. The WNBA in a statement released on Sept. 25 revealed zero tolerance for racism, derogatory comments and threats made to players, teams, and anyone associated with the league.
