Breanna Stewart was one of Team USA's standout players at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the WNBA star received some well deserved praise from her wife Marta Xargay after the tournament.

Xargay could not contain her excitement after the United States took home a record eighth straight gold medal, defeating France 67-66 in the women's basketball final on Sunday. Xargay, who was a professional basketball player herself, showed some support for her partner in her latest Instagram story with a succinct and direct caption:

Marta Xargay understands how special it can be to take home a medal. The shooting guard was a member of the Spanish side that finished with a silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, losing out to Stewart's USA team in the finals on that occasion.

Stewart was named the 2021 Olympics tournament MVP after leading her team to the gold in Tokyo.

The New York Liberty forward would have been hoping to take home the coveted prize once again after an outstanding tournament, but fell just short, losing out to UAA teammate A'ja Wilson.

The United States women's team relied heavily on Breanna Stewart and A'ja Wilson as they went in search of their 10th Olympic women's basketball gold medal.

Stewart had a strong start to the tournament and was one of the early favorites for the MVP after recording 48 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists in her first two games. The New York Liberty forward recorded 13 points in the following two games, but was a key figure in the teams 85-64 semifinal win over Australia, finishing with 16 points and six rebounds.

In a tightly contested final against the home nation France, Stewart finished with eight points, three rebounds, one assist and a block to guide her team to a victory and secure her third Olympic gold medal.

Overall, Stewart averaged 16.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks per game over six games.

The 29-year-old was rewarded for her hard work by being named to the tournament's All-Star Five.
