WNBA fans reacted to the latest record-breaking sales of Caitlin Clark's WNBA card on Goldin Auctions. One of the posts by @WNBAcards.com on X, formerly known as "Twitter," listed the highest WNBA card sales by players, totaling $219,906.
However, only $3,234 amounted to players [A'ja Wilson and Sabrina Ionescu] other than Caitlin Clark, whose sales amounted to a total of $216,672.
Noticing a world of difference between the popularity of reigning MVP A'ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark, the WNBA fans reacted to the post. One fan wrote that the sales made it clear that Clark was the face of the WNBA.
"It’s crystal clear who the face of the WNBA is," a fan wrote.
One of the fans even took a shot at Wilson, saying that she was not marketable and her card was overpriced, even at $915.
"Wilson $915 lmao and that's overpriced.. Caitlin is on another planet on the court and off the court," the fan wrote.
"😭😭😭😭MVP in the muddddd," a fan wrote.
"CC is marketable Aja is not," the fan wrote.
One of the fans highlighted the stark difference between Clark alone and the other WNBA players.
"So if I interpret your post correctly, Clark cards amassed over $200k in sales and then there's the others....." the fan wrote.
Some fans even wrote that mentioning Wilson and Ionescu in the post was unnecessary; without Clark, there would be no WNBA news.
"It is remarkable the lengths some WNBA people will go to avoid saying “Caitlin Clark”. It’s not “over $200k in WNBA cards”; it’s “$215k in CC cards, and $3k in everybody else”. Without Clark, there is no news to report here," the fan wrote.
"Why say WNBA cards dawg.. just say over 200k in Caitlin Clark cards sold in December!" a fan wrote.
Caitlin Clark's signed WNBA rookie card sells for record $234
Caitlin Clark's WNBA cards smashing sales record is just one part of the story that the Fever star has made this year. Her signed 1-of-1 Rookie card had already smashed the previous record set by any player in the league.
On Dec. 7, Goldin Auctions posted on X that Clark's signed 1-of-1 2024 Panini Select WNBA Signatures Gold Vinyl card has been sold for a record $234,850. PSA had graded the card Gem Mint and featured the Indiana Pacers star's signature.
The $234,850 is the highest-priced card in WNBA history and the second-highest card of any female athlete in history. Tennis legend Serena Williams's 2022 autographed 2003 NetPro card holds the record with $266,000.
Previously, in January 2024, Bleacher Report reported that Clark's 1-of-1 2022 Bowman University Superfractor card from her first year in college was sold for a record $78,000. The record was broken in September when her autographed WNBA draft rookie card was sold for $84,000.
Next month, only a few weeks later, the Fever star's Panini Instant Rookie of the Year Blue Viper autograph card broke the previous record with $97,000.
