Angel Reese and Teresa Weatherspoon had a reunion at the final game of the WNBA Finals on Sunday after the former Chicago Sky coach was fired last month. Reese took to Instagram to share an all-smiles snap with Weatherspoon as they watched the game from the sidelines.
"My heart is so full 🥺," Reese captioned her IG story.
The game featured Teresa Weatherspoon's former team, the New York Liberty, defeating the Minnesota Lynx 67-62 in overtime to win the series 3-2 and secure their first WNBA title. Meanwhile, Angel Reese sported a custom half-and-half jersey to extend support to both teams.
Teresa Weatherspoon became a first-time WNBA head coach when the Chicago Sky hired her for the post in October 2023. After just one season as head coach, the Sky fired her at the end of last month.
"I'm heartbroken": Angel Reese pens emotional message for Teresa Weatherspoon
Following the news of Teresa Weatherspoon's removal, Angel Reese took to X, formerly Twitter, to share an emotional message for the former Sky coach, elaborating on the impact she had on her.
"I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black women in sports when nobody believes in you," Reese wrote.
"You had a tough job. All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year & when your back was against the wall, you always believed. I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life. We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever."
Reese added:
"I’ll never question God why he brings people in my life and takes them away from me in the capacity that I need them but i’ve always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon."
Under the tutelage of Terese Weatherspoon, Angel Reese had a historic rookie campaign, setting various WNBA records with her rebounding prowess. However, the Chicago Sky failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2018, which may have been a deciding factor for Weatherspoon's removal.
