After moving on from Teresa Weatherspoon, the Chicago Sky introduced former Las Vegas Aces assistant coach Tyler Marsh as their next head coach ahead of the 2025 WNBA season.
Marsh served as the head of player development in Las Vegas, helping the team to back-to-back championships while working with the likes of A'ja Wilson and Jackie Young.
Marsh was making the rounds to introduce himself to Sky players and recalled a humorous first encounter with point guard Rachel Banham. Marsh said that when he reached out to introduce himself, Banham revealed she was at an Usher concert.
"I was like, 'Oh, no problem,'" Marsh shared. "'I just wanna introduce myself, I understand. My wife and I, we went to Usher a few months ago, we understand.' And she was like, 'Yeah I gotta lock in but I did go last night also.'"
Banham was traded to Chicago from the Connecticut Sun on July 17. She appeared in 16 games for the Sky, notching nine starts. With Chicago, she averaged 6.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 19.8 minutes per game.
Tyler Marsh shares offseason priority for Sky
In his introductory press conference, Tyler Marsh was asked about his biggest priority for Chicago this offseason.
"Shooting," Marsh answered. "We want shooting, and lots of it."
Marsh shared his prioritization of 3-point shooting with his players during his introductions. He also told Sky forward Elizabeth Williams, who was sitting next to him during the press conference:
"We're going to get you shooting some threes too."
Chicago finished last in the WNBA in 3-pointers attempted (193) and 3-pointers made (597) and was ninth among 12 WNBA teams in 3-point percentage. Tyler Marsh will look to overhaul these numbers and open the Sky's offense up for more 3-point opportunities in 2025.
Marsh is the fifth Chicago Sky head coach since 2016 and will look to take the team back to the playoffs after missing the postseason in 2024.
