Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier and other WNBA players celebrated a significant personal milestone for their teammate, Courtney Williams, on Instagram. On Thursday, the veteran guard shared a series of heartfelt photos of her marriage proposal to her girlfriend, Shya.
Williams got down on one knee to pop the question and proudly shared the moment on social media. A short but touching message accompanied the photos.
"Wowwwww 🥹 it’s a forever thing now 🔒🫶🏽 My fiancé yaaa hearrr meeee," Williams captioned the post.
Lynx teammates Napheesa Collier and Bridget Carleton were among the first to extend their best wishes to the couple.
Connecticut Sun stars DeWanna Bonner and DiJonai Carrington also congratulated the pair.
Indiana Fever's Lexie Hull and Dallas Wings' Satou Sabally also commented on the post.
Courtney Williams is coming off an impressive season with the Lynx, in which she helped the team reach the WNBA Finals. Although they fell to the New York Liberty in a hard-fought five-game series, they sent a strong message to the rest of the league about their future potential.
In addition to her stellar performance in the 2024 WNBA season, Williams is set to participate in the inaugural season of the 3x3 league, Unrivaled, co-founded by her teammate Napheesa Collier and Liberty star Breanna Stewart.
A special ring is soon to grace Williams' hand. While it may not be a championship ring, it's one she'll treasure just as much.
How long have Courtney Williams and girlfriend been together?
In May 2024, Shya revealed that she and Courtney Williams have been in a relationship since 2022. She celebrated Williams' 30th birthday with a special video on Instagram.
"Happy 30th birthday to my person!! My best friend, my lover, my protector and diary," Shya posted. "The last two years with you have been amazing and I’m so honored to experience you. 30 is CRAZY and so fitting."
Williams and Shya haven't announced their wedding date yet, but it appears the ceremony will be graced by star-studded guests.
