Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier co-founded Unrivaled last year, and it will begin play in January 2025. Collier's husband, Alex Bazzell, serves as the league's president. He recently celebrated Unrivaled's deal with Under Armour, a $4.17 billion athletic brand (as per Forbes).
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Bazzell couldn't contain his excitement after Unrivaled revealed its partnership with Under Armour. The details of the deal were not made available to the public.
"Excited to welcome @underarmour as a league partner to help us outfit the best of the best at @unrivaledbasketball! We have more work to do but it's always good to pause and recognize wins along the way! January is coming quick!" Bazzell wrote.
According to CNBC, Under Armour will be the official outfitter of Unrivaled. The company will provide players, coaches and team personnel with apparel and accessories. Non-Under Armour athletes playing in the league will have the option to wear their shoes or use those from their partner brands.
"We couldn't be more thrilled to partner with Unrivaled to outfit some of the best women’s basketball players in the world as they compete on this exciting new stage," Sean Eggert, Under Armour's senior vice president of global sports marketing, said in a statement.
In addition to Under Armour, Unrivaled has deals with other companies, such as Wilson, State Farm, and Mediapro. The league also has a television deal with TNT Sports, making it available on TNT, TruTV and HBO Max.
Unrivaled's inaugural season tips off on Jan. 17 in Miami, Florida. Some of the most notable players part of the league include Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier, Alyssa Thomas, Jewell Loyd and more.
Napheesa Collier excited about Unrivaled's inaugural season
Unrivaled has already introduced the six clubs that will participate in the inaugural season. Thirty-three players have been revealed, with three more names still to be announced. Kelsey Plum was supposed to play but opted out to focus on her offseason.
Despite Plum’s exit and Caitlin Clark turning them down, Napheesa Collier is excited for the league. Collier told Bleacher Report last week that fans will be surprised by what they have in store.
"I think everyone is going to be pleasantly surprised by the content and the access they'll get to the athletes," Collier said. "We're doing such a deep dive into the athletes' personalities and podcasts and behind-the-scenes looks and a docuseries. Fans should be very interested to see that side of us, too."
Collier was drafted by the Lunar Owls and will play under coach DJ Sackman. She will team up with Skylar Diggins-Smith, Natasha Cloud, Allisha Gray, Shakira Austin and a player to be named later.
