Angel Reese announced in July that she would join Unrivaled, the basketball league founded by WNBA superstars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. On Thursday, Reese shared on Instagram a clip of her training and wrote:
“ima make that 💩 happen regardless!”
Alex Bazzell, Collier’s husband and the league's President reacted with a clapping hands emoji:
The Chicago Sky star’s preparation for the 3x3 tournament started late because of a season-ending wrist fracture that she suffered earlier this year. With the injury now healed, Reese is back on the court working on her game.
Bazzell gained recognition as a skills trainer and has worked with NBA and WNBA players. His clients include Kyrie Irving, Trae Young, and Caris LeVert. Collier and Bazzell met in high school and Bazzell has trained Collier too.
Last season, Reese finished second to Caitlin Clark in the WNBA Rookie of the Year race. The Sky forward also made it to the All-Star game. Reese averaged 13.6 points per game on 39.1% shooting. Considering that she spends a lot of her time within five feet of the basket, her field-goal percentage was criticized by some.
Fans and analysts are interested in seeing what improvements she has made in her game, particularly on offense, when she competes in the Unrivaled League.
Angel Reese will play against Alex Bazzell’s wife, Napheesa Collier, in Unrivaled
Six teams make up the Unrivaled league. Angel Reese will play for Rose Basketball Club alongside Kahleah Copper, Chelsea Gray, Lexie Hull, Azura Stevens and Britney Sykes under coach Nola Henry.
Napheesa Collier leads the Lunar Owls Basketball coached by DJ Sackmann. Her teammates include Shakira Austin, Natasha Cloud, Skylar Diggins-Smith and Allisha Gray. Cameron Brink is a part of the team but will not play this season due to an ACL injury. They will faceoff against each other on January 18.
