Since the birth of Unrivaled, Napheesa Collier's husband has played his part in helping get the new league off the ground. Less than two weeks before opening night, he was left stunned by training videos of one of the big names competing in the inaugural season.
Among those who inked a deal to play in Unrivaled this year is Skylar Diggins-Smith, who will earn a base salary of $214,466 in 2025, per Spotrac. She'll play alongside Collier on the Lunar Owls.
Over the weekend, the team's official Instagram page posted a clip of the WNBA All-Star making a trainer fall while going through shooting drills.
It did not take long for this post to start making the rounds online, as numerous people flooded the comment section. Among those to do so were Napheesa Collier's husband, Alex Bazzell, and fellow Unrivaled competitor Dearica Hamby.
Hamby is part of the "Vinly Basketball Club" squad alongside Arike Ogunbowale and Aliyah Boston.
As for Diggins-Smith, she is coming off her first season with the Seattle Storm in the WNBA. The six-time All-Star played in all 40 games in the regular season and averaged 15.1 points, 6.4 assists and 1.7 steals.
Diggins-Smith and the Lunar Owls will be in action on opening night in the first-ever game in Unrivaled's history. They'll square off against "Mist" on January 17 at 7:00 pm Eastern Time.
Napheesa Collier's husband has heartfelt reaction to Lynx star's latest social media post
In preparation for the kickoff of the Unrivaled season, teams held media day over the weekend. Following all her commitments, Napheesa Collier peeled back the curtain on social media.
The Minnesota Lynx star posted a series of photos from media day on her Instagram on Sunday. It included a team shot of the Lunar Owls, along with multiple photos of her husband and child.
Among those to leave a comment on Napheesa Collier's post was her husband, Alex Bazzell. He replied with a series of heart-eyed emojis.
Collier and Bazzell first met during the former's college career at UConn. While she was on the court playing, he was eventually hired as a trainer for the women's program. By the fall of 2019, the couple was engaged. Two years after their engagement, Collier gave birth to their daughter Mila. In the fall of 2022, the two officially tied the knot.
In the midst of their respective basketball careers and family life, Collier and Bazzell also managed to help build a new innovative women's sports league.
