NBA legend Dwyane Wade was hyped about Paige Buekcers' response after scoring her 2000th career point for UConn. Bueckers broke Maya Moore's record as the fastest player in the program's history to achieve the milestone. She took 102 games compared to Moore's 108. She completed the feat on Sunday in UConn's 96-36 win against the Seton Hall Pirates.
Bueckers' post-game reaction on her record went viral and caught Wade's attention on Wednesday. The Hall of Famer shared a video lauding Bueckers' "bars."
"I just really want to reward their hard work because everybody sees the 2,000 points, but nobody sees the 2,000 days of hard work," Bueckers' said. "So, it's just a testimony to everybody who's invested in me."
Wade had a heartfelt five-word comment on that interview:
"This why I love @paigebueckers."
Dwyane Wade is a huge fan of women's basketball and a minority owner of the Chicago Sky.
Dwyane Wade heaped praise on Paige Bueckers' counterpart after epic showdown resulted in UConn's loss
Dwyane Wade has keenly followed women's college basketball this season. The NBA legend was among the fans who caught the enticing matchup between Paige Bueckers' Uconn and Hannah Hidalgo's Notre Dame on Dec. 12. Wade hailed Hidalgo for her exploits in that game during an appearance on a Wy Network show on Jan. 8.
"She's like (5-foot-6) and she's a dog," Wade said. "Averages like seven rebounds a game type dog. And when we say dog in hoops, that means something. This is a hoop term. We talking in hoop terms. It's just straight hooper's dog."
Wade also hailed Bueckers, saying she's one of his favorite players. The former Heat superstar could get to see her live in action frequently in the upcoming WNBA season as Bueckers will potentially enter the draft. She's expected to go No. 1 overall to the Dallas Wings.
