Angel Reese, the Chicago Sky forward, has been thrust into the spotlight, but unfortunately, not for good reasons. While she has gained public attention since her time at LSU, this recent wave of negative publicity stems from false reports circulating online.
WNBA fans on X (formerly Twitter) have been sharing images of fabricated reports circulating on social media, falsely accusing Reese of steroid use. A handle by the name iriscentral_ brought this issue to light on Sunday, highlighting how these fake accounts have spreading these rumors.
"Just search her name on YouTube. these videos have crazy views btw. The one that started this rumour has 300k + views. and people believe it," they tweeted.
WNBA fans have since flooded this post and rallied behind Angel Reese, urging her to take legal action against these accounts:
"Need her to start suing ASAP," wrote one fan.
"Are ppl believing in this??? she needs to lawyer up asap" suggested another.
"Let’s all go report the page/video," a handle declared.
"The people who believe this are just flat out stupid, but I wouldn’t expect anything less," another wrote.
While many fans suggested reporting these accounts few others expressed how it would be almost impossible:
"There’s a tiktok of this with 2mil+ views and that’s literally just one of them."
"Those are AI channels on youtube and they are created to spread fake news about famous people, the craziest clickbait," wrote another.
How did the steroid use rumors about Angel Reese first begin?
The false news surrounding Angel Reese has quickly spread across the internet, sparking heated debates among fans and detractors alike. The rumors initially surfaced after she suffered an injury last month.
After injuring her wrist during a game against the Los Angeles Sparks on September 7, Angel Reese was ruled of the rest of the season with a hairline fracture and it was reported that she needed surgery.
This injury forced her to miss six of the Chicago Sky's remaining games, and soon after, rumors began circulating about a suspension due to steroid use. Her abrupt end to the season and her subsequent appearances at various events across the country further fueled this speculation.
Angel Reese is no stranger to unfounded rumors. Earlier this year, the former LSU star took to social media to debunk false reports claiming she was pregnant and missing games due to her childbirth.
