Kate Martin is set to start a new chapter in her still-young WNBA career. The young guard had a discreet rookie season with the Las Vegas Aces, failing to make it to the rotation and only seeing minutes during garbage time for most of the season.

The Golden State Valkyries picked Martin as the sixth selection in the expansion draft, giving her a new start in the Bay with the newest franchise in the league. Many welcomed this news with good eyes, but some Aces fans weren't so receptive to it.

San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle belonged to the first group, as he took to Instagram and commented with a two-word message to welcome Martin to the young team.

Kittle has always been for the community and hasn't missed opportunities to support the Valkyries ahead of their 2025 debut. Kate Martin was very popular during her first year in the league, even becoming one of the top jersey sellers in the competition.

She's now headed to the Bay to represent a team with intriguing pieces, including Cecilia Zandalasini, Kayla Thornton, and Temi Fagbenle.

The Valkyries, however, should prefer to separate from Kittle's team, who are struggling with a 5-7 record in the 2024 NFL season, and get closer to the Golden State Warriors, one of the best teams in the Western Conference in the 2024-25 season with a 13-9 record.

Caitlin Clark reacts to news regarding Kate Martin

After several were shocked to learn that the Aces didn't protect Kate Martin ahead of the expansion draft, people close to her were ecstatic to see her getting a new opportunity to shine in the W.

One of them was former teammate and close friend Caitlin Clark, the former Iowa Hawkeyes player, who took to Instagram to pump up Martin, dropping a three-word message on an Instagram story to celebrate this decision.

"lets go kater!!!!!" Clark captioned the post.

Besides Clark, Claire Gransee, Kate Martin's girlfriend, also reacted to the news and lauded her after she was interviewed following the Valkyries selection.

Working woman," said Gransee in an IG comment.

The Golden State Valkyries still have one roster spot available, which could be filled via free agency, trade, and even through the upcoming WNBA Draft.
