Nika Muhl reacted to former UConn Huskies teammate Paige Bueckers' latest achievement, pumping up the senior guard over a rare feat. Before Sunday's game against Seton Hall, Bueckers was six points away from 2,000 career points. She scored three times that number to lead her team to a comfortable 96-36 win.
The team's Instagram account celebrated Bueckers' achievement, noting that she was the fastest Huskies player to reach this number.
"Paige Bueckers is the 12th Husky to 2,000 career points! She reached 2K in her 102nd career game, making her the fastest Husky to the milestone," the Huskies captioned the post.
Seattle Storm guard Nika Muhl was among those happy for Bueckers. The WNBA player shared an Instagram story to celebrate her ex-teammate, writing a message to sum up how she felt about this record.
"I mean... duh?" Muhl wrote, letting people know she expected this to happen any given time.
Paige Bueckers only played 23 minutes against the Seton Hall Pirates, but it was enough to achieve this milestone while adding more to her all-time scoring register. She finished the game with 18 points, two rebounds and seven assists, tied as the team's second-best scorer with Azzi Fudd. Sarah Strong led the way with a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double.
Bueckers reflected on the milestone in the postgame interview.
"It means everything, but it takes a village," Bueckers said. "I did not get here by myself. It's funny, I had my pilates instructor here, Brooke, who came to the game and it's just the people, everybody who's invested in me and stayed with me. I've had a tough journey, but it's a beautiful journey. I've seen so many invest a lot and do a lot for me and I just really wanna reward their hard work."
Nika Muhl celebrated Aubrey Griffin's comeback before Paige Bueckers' historical performance
This game was special for Nika Muhl and the UConn Huskies, not only because Bueckers had the chance to make history but also because of Aubrey Griffin's return. After 381 days out of action, she returned to court today, with Muhl hyping up the moment on social media.
"BEEN WAITING FOR THISSSSS [Aubrey Griffin] is baaaack," Muhl wrote.
Griffin only clocked in 10 minutes, scoring three points, grabbing four rebounds and dishing two assists.
