WNBA fans brought up how Caitlin Clark handled Antonio Brown's online attacks and didn't let the former NFL star's trolling get to her. During her final season in college and in the early stages of her professional career, AB took to social media to make fun of Clark.
Brown used the B-word to refer to Clark while saying she looked like Mel Gibson. This rubbed plenty of people the wrong way, but it wasn't the worst thing he said. Brown made another derogatory comment about Clark, which included the word "hairy."
Even though she blocked Brown on social media, Caitlin Clark never addressed the trolling publicly, letting it die as the weeks went by.
Several fans pointed out how Clark took away the power of letting Brown know that his comments affected her in some way and the trolling stopped.
"Exactly!!!! No one made a peep of Antonio brown harassing CC all game, even did it on ig live. Didnt hear a peep. The Wnba is a mess," one fan wrote.
"And that’s exactly why a lot of of people didn’t know cos she didn’t give it attention. Imagine she gave it attention and acted like the victim she was, a lot of people would have known, but she isn’t that kind of person," another fan noted.
"She blocked him. She chooses not to amplify it and give it more attention," another fan said.
Other fans praised her support system but noted that her colleagues didn't stand up for Clark, as well as saying that she focused on promoting the WNBA.
"it didn't b/c Caitlin was trying to keep attention on promoting the WNBA. It was during preseason, and she just made sure to keep the attention off him," one fan recalled.
Caitlin Clark lashed out against racism and online abuse
Caitlin Clark didn't mince words when discussing the abuse her colleagues have been subjected to this season. After Alyssa Thomas, Brittney Griner and more raised their voices against the behavior of some so-called fans on social media, Clark had a strong response.
The young guard said that nobody deserved to be on the receiving end of those types of comments, attributing those people were trolls, not actual fans of the game.
