A'ja Wilson about having a performance similar to Dwyane Wade's "purple shirt guy" 2016 playoff incident
In Friday's 87-74 loss against the Lynx, A'ja Wilson had 24 points (47.1% shooting), seven rebounds and three assists.
The Aces were getting dominated by Minnesota's defense. It was a 17-point deficit entering the fourth quarter and courtesy of Wilson's 11 points, the lead was trimmed down to just five points.
Following the game, A'ja Wilson talked about being motivated by a vocal Lynx fan and mirrored her performance similarly to the time Dwyane Wade forced a Game 7 against the Charlotte Hornets in 2016's first-round series, as per Las Vegas Sun's Jack Williams.
At that time, Wade was being heckled by a fan wearing a long-sleeved purple shirt, resulting in an electric performance from the Heat legend.
"That fan really got me going in a sense where I felt like I had to prove myself ," Wilson said, "and I thought I was past that in this league. But it's always good to have a wake-up call. I kind of guessed I had my purple shirt guy game in a sense, but I really didn't go as crazy as D-Wade did and we didn't win. I felt like that was just where that energy came from."
Despite getting herself and her team going, the motivation gained was not enough to pull off a comeback win.
