Fans reacted as Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky continued to struggle since the All-Star break, going 1-3 since the season resumed.
While she started off slow on Friday against the Connecticut Sun, Reese has been one of the few bright spots for the Sky, posting four straight double-doubles and back-to-back games with 20 rebounds in her last two games.
Reese struggled in the first quarter versus the Sun, missing three layup attempts, and finishing the opening period scoreless. Fans reacted to the rookie missing three layups on fast breaks to start the game.
"I don't realize how awful this is from a professional athlete this is from a professional athlete. It's not even funny anymore, it's embarrassing," one fan said.
"I thought you were exaggerating how open she was, but nah, she was OPEN open," another fan commented.
"How is she so bad?," a third fan questioned.
Other WNBA fans accused the Sky rookie of stat-padding for better-rebounding numbers.
"And this is how you get a double-double," a fan humorously commented.
"She has to pump up those rebounds some how," another fan joked.
Despite her slow start, Angel Reese bounced back to finish the game with 13 points, 20 rebounds and two blocks in a strong defensive showing.
The Sky were in the game for much of it but lost 82-80 after Alyssa Thomas sunk both her free throws with four seconds left.
Playoff hopes dwindling for Angel Reese's Chicago Sky
While her rookie counterpart Caitlin Clark has helped lead the Indiana Fever to two straight wins as they eye a better seed, Angel Reese and the Sky have stumbled out the gates to start the second half of the season.
With the loss to the Sun, the Sky fell to 11-17 on the season, clinging to the eighth seed in the WNBA for dear life. After losing three of four games, Chicago sits just one game ahead of the Atlanta Dream in the standings.
Despite a historic rookie season from Reese, averaging 13.6 points and 12.3 rebounds, the Sky have struggled offensively and lacked consistency on offense.
The road doesn't get easier for Chicago, as it faces off against the Las Vegas Aces, Indiana Fever and the Minnesota Lynx in three of its next four games. Chicago closes the season with a four-game stretch versus Minnesota, Phoenix, Atlanta and Connecticut.
The Sky will look to steady the ship as they enter a tough stretch during their next few games.
