Basketball analyst Jayson Timpf pointed out the wide gap between A'ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark in terms of being the best player in the WNBA. Wilson proved it again on Wednesday after the Las Vegas Aces defeated Clark and the Indiana Fever for the third time this season.
On an episode of the "Hoops Tonight" podcast released on Wednesday, Timpf explained why Wilson is the best player in the league. Clark might be having one of the best rookie years ever, but the Aces superstar is having a season for the ages en route to her assumed third WNBA MVP award.
"A'ja Wilson is definitely the best player in the WNBA. She's absolutely deadly as a midrange jump shooter. It's like clockwork, 45-46 percent. She can drive closeouts from that position about as anybody in the league. ... She's one of the best athletes in the league," Timpf said.
The Volume Sports analyst added:
"This Caitlin Clark story is really cool, and for a rookie, she's completely unbelievable. She's arguably been the second-best player in the WNBA over the last two months or so. She has a really good chance to finish second in MVP voting. That's really cool but make no mistake, A'ja Wilson is the best and it's not particularly close."
Caitlin Clark entered the MVP conversation after the Olympic break after leading the Indiana Fever to a hot start. Clark had the Fever in rhythm, and they were at times one of the best teams in the WNBA. They were playing so well that the Fever qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
The Fever have defeated almost every team in the league this season except for one – A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces. They are 3-0 against Indiana, with the first two games being blowouts.
Wednesday's game was more competitive and the Fever kept the game close in the second half. However, the Aces were just too much and Indiana struggled to score when they needed it the most. Las Vegas closed it out late to get the 86-75 victory.
Caitlin Clark and the Fever have another chance against Las Vegas on Friday

The Indiana Fever have one more shot to conquer the back-to-back defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces. The two teams will battle it out again on Friday at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the fourth and final time this year.
Caitlin Clark needs a bounce-back game after struggling from beyond the arc on Wednesday. She went 1-for-10 from threes but still managed to put up 16 points, three rebounds and six assists.
On the other hand, A'ja Wilson also shot the ball poorly but she finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. Wilson is not just the best offensive player in the league today but is also one of the best defenders.
