A'ja Wilson had a funny response to her former coach Dawn Staley after she called her out for blocking Kamilla Cardoso during Chicago Sky vs LV Aces game on Thursday.
Staley recorded herself reacting to Wilson blocking Cardoso's shot in the fourth quarter of the game. Staley was shocked and upset and sent a clear message to Wilson over that play.
"Oh, Kamilla! No, don't do that to Kamilla! Do not do that to Kamilla! I'm gonna fight, I'm gonna fight, I'm gonna fight! I'm gonna fight," Staley said while showing a closed fist to the camera.
A'ja Wilson took to X to respond to her former coach, reminding Staley that she always told her to go hard on every play.
"It’s the groans and screams in the background 😂😂 but @dawnstaley always told me don’t take any plays off …now she wanna fight 😂😂😂 sorry bookie 🤭," Wilson quote-tweeted the video.
Wilson and Staley teamed up for four years, from 2014 through 2018, winning the championship together in 2017. Kamilla Cardoso also helped Staley secure the championship last season before declaring for the WNBA Draft in a star-studded class alongside Caitlin Clark and Sky teammate Angel Reese.
In the end, Wilson got the last laugh since her Aces dominated the Sky, getting the 95-83 win at Wintrust Arena. She finished the night with 31 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Cardoso didn't have the best game, scoring five points to go alongside eight rebounds and three assists.
A'ja Wilson praised Angel Reese after Aces-Sky game
A'ja Wilson had some good things to say about a Sky rookie following last night's game. Angel Reese has had an entertaining start to her professional career, making headlines almost every week for her on-court performances or her activities off the floor.
Wilson was impressed by Reese's performance on Thursday, stating that the Aces could learn something when going against the former LSU star.
"I feel like we got some growth that we can learn when it comes to guarding her and defending her, but obviously, she held her own," Wilson said. [5:49 mark]
Following the match, Sky HC Teresa Weatherspoon also praised Reese for the way she competed against veterans like A'ja Wilson.
"She's [Reese] fine. She's played against some incredibly talented post players in this league, veterans who understand the game really well, are savvy, super smart, super intelligent."
Reese and Cardoso are just starting their WNBA careers, but they're expected to compete against tough opponents like Wilson for many years.
