A video of an NYC subway girl is making the rounds on social media for her take on why she thinks the WNBA is better than the NBA. In the viral video, she explains her claim by citing that there are many more layers of entertainment in the WNBA, most of which are a product of many players in the league being engaged romantically with teammates.
"WNBA is better than the NBA" she said. "Because WNBA, everyone's lesbian and so people are f***ing, and they're getting married and they're breaking up and you see it happen on the court. And then on top of that as well, the thing about the WNBA is that they feel like they need to keep your attention the whole time. So they're entertaining you every part of the game."
She also took the opportunity to pitch herself for the WNBA and pleaded to join the New York Liberty and cited various reasons why the team should consider her.
"I actually would like to take this opportunity cause you have a big platform to say I'd like to join the WNBA if possible. I'm five feet tall, I have an amazing jump shot from mid-range if I'm not being guarded," she continued.
2024 WNBA All-Star Game featured clash amidst couple
The 2024 WNBA All-Star Game held in July featured a couple's oddity as Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner faced each other in the game, representing Team USA and Team WNBA, respectively. While they both play together for the Connecticut Suns during regular games, the engaged couple played against each other for the first time, with Bonner emerging victorious in the clash.
The clash built on previous All-Star weekend memories for the couple as Alyssa Thomas proposed to DeWanna Bonner during the All-Star weekend in 2023. Thomas and Bonner are one of the most notable power couples in the WNBA and their chemistry is often visible during the Connecticut Suns' games.
“It’s a gift and a curse right?” Bonner recently told The Associated Press. “Because there’s time that we go at it and we’re competitors. So there’s times that we do bump heads on the court. But once we walk off the court, you know, outside of those lines, that’s it about basketball. But on the court, I just feel like she knows me. I know her. She makes me better. She makes my job easier.”
Bonner is a two-time WNBA champion and is fifth on the league's all-time scoring list with over 7000 career points. Meanwhile, Thomas is yet to win a WNBA title but is the Suns' all-time assists leader and an Olympic gold medalist after Team USA clinched the championship at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
