The basketball world was abuzz on Saturday evening after Angel Reese shared the disheartening news of her season-ending wrist injury. The Chicago Sky rookie Reese announced that she would no longer participate in the ongoing WNBA season, as the injury will keep her sidelined indefinitely.
Basketball fans rallied around the 22-year-old rookie, flooding the comments sections of her social media account with messages of support and well wishes for a speedy recovery.
Overwhelmed by the outpouring of fan support, the former LSU star was deeply moved. The one-time WNBA All-Star took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her heartfelt gratitude to her fans.
"I love you guys & appreciate all the thoughts and prayers! I know you guys would cut your wrist off to give it to me in a heart beat, but we not done yet! SKYTOWN LET’S GO!," wrote Reese.
Angel Reese injury
On Saturday, the Chicago Sky announced that Angel Reese underwent an evaluation following the game against the LA Sparks. The results delivered a devastating blow for both Reese and Chicago, which tweeted:
"After undergoing further medical evaluation after the September 6 game against Los Angeles, Angel Reese has been ruled out for the rest of the 2024 season with a wrist injury, the team announced today. The team will provide medical updates later as needed."
Reese was exceptional in the Sky's blowout 92-78 victory over the Sparks. The 22-year notched up her 26th double-double of the season, recording 24 points and 12 rebounds. She shot 9-of-15, including 1-of-3 from the 3-point range.
Angel Reese reflects on her injury
Angel Reese penned a lengthy message addressing her fans following her season-ending injury. The rookie looked back fondly on her first season in professional basketball and promised to come back even stronger next season.
"What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol," Reese wrote.
"Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed. All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact," she added.

Reese’s rookie season came to a close after playing 34 of 40 regular-season games. In her debut WNBA season, she averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game.
