In their first encounter, the Mercury dominated, winning 85-65 in a blowout. They continued their strong play with another decisive victory, this time 86-68.

Taurasi’s two free throws followed by an 18-foot jumper in the final seconds increased Phoenix’s lead to 13 points as the quarter ended. Kamilla Cardoso led the Sky in the first quarter with eight points.
