Phoenix Mercury vs Washington Mystics was a tight matchup in the first half, but was a different story after halftime. Thanks to a strong second-half surge, Diana Taurasi and company managed to walk out with a 96-87 victory.
The key standout for the Mercury in this win was Brittney Griner. She got off to a hot start early and never looked back. In 29 minutes of action, Griner scored a team-high 23 points to go along with seven rebounds.
Kahleah Cooper also deserves credit for her contributions to Phoenix's win over Washington. The four-time All-Star finished with 22 points on 56.3% shooting from the field.
As for the Mystics, their top performer was Myisha Hines-Allen. She did a little bit of everything against the Mercury, posting a stat line of 18 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Julie Valoo also provided a nice boost, finishing with 17 points and five assists.
Following this matchup, the WNBA will see an extended break in the action due to All-Star festivities and the Olympics. The Mercury will not be back in action for a month until they take on the Chicago Sky on August 15th.
