WNBA stars DiJonai Carrington and Rickea Jackson are ramping up their preparations ahead of Unrivaled's inaugural season in Miami, Florida, on Jan. 17. Carrington and Jackson might be playing for different WNBA teams but are teammates in the new 3-on-3 league.
In a post on Instagram stories, Carrington shared a mirror selfie with Jackson wearing their Mist BC jerseys made by Under Armour. The Connecticut Sun star joked that the mirror was getting "sick" of her and Jackson, coming off an impressive rookie campaign with the LA Sparks.
"This mirror gon be sick of us," Carrington wrote.
Despite facing each other four times in the WNBA season, DiJonai Carrington and Rickea Jackson will be teammates at Unrivaled. They were drafted by coach Phil Handy of Mist BC and play alongside Breanna Stewart, Aaliyah Edwards, Jewell Loyd and Courtney Vansloot.
Carrington is coming off a strong season, winning the WNBA Most Improved Player award. She averaged 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game in her first year as a starter and was also named to the WNBA All-Defensive First Team.
Her defense was superb throughout the season, mainly making headlines by hounding Caitlin Clark on the court. She also received some hateful comments online but helped the Sun sweep the Indiana Fever in the first round of the 2024 WNBA playoffs.
Meanwhile, Rickea Jackson cemented herself as the third-best rookie, behind Clark and Angel Reese. Jackson became an important part of the Sparks' rotation, averaging 13.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. She had to carry more load on offense following Cameron Brink's season-ending injury.
DiJonai Carrington playing in the offseason for the first time
One of the most common moves by WNBA players in the offseason is to sign with a team overseas, where the salary is way more competitive. Unrivaled gave the players an option of staying at home and remaining active before the start of the new season.
DiJonai Carrington, who has always passed on playing during the offseason, decided to sign with Unrivaled. For the first time in her career, the all-around guard will be active in her off months, getting drafted by Mist BC for the 3-on-3 league's first-ever season.
Mist BC's campaign starts on opening night, facing the Lunar Owls in the first game in Unrivaled history. Each team will have 14 games on their schedule, while the playoffs are single-elimination. The tournament starts on Jan. 17 and will be available on TNT and TruTV.
