Indiana Fever’s Erica Wheeler posted an Instagram story featuring Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard earlier today. Lillard was one of the thousands of viewers who showed up to the Target Center in Minneapolis for the entertaining matchup between the impressive Minnesota Lynx and Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever.
The former Trail Blazer arrived wearing a Dame Dolla green hoodie, representing his current team’s colors. Dame Dolla is the rap persona that Lillard has taken up for a career that kickstarted after the release of Bigger Than Us back in 2015. Wheeler simply tagged Lillard in the story:
Lillard arrived at the arena grinning alongside Caitlin Clark and also sported an elaborate necklace with white sunglasses and a black headband.
The player is celebrating his 34th birthday today, ie. July 15, and seemed to have a gala of a time as the Fever saw multiple big performances from their starters. The game proved utterly close as the Lynx was firmly in the hunt for three-quarters.
That was until a 4th quarter rampage saw the Fever dominate proceedings, as they went 28-14 in the quarter and came away with an 81-74 win.
Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark star as Indiana Fever win second successive game, with Damian Lillard in attendance
The Fever needed to produce a better spell to stay in the hunt for a postseason berth. They have done exactly that of late, as they came up with what was their third win in four games. Recent weeks have seen the Fever come away with wins against the Lynx, Phoenix Mercury and the New York Liberty, as they now find themselves 3rd in the Eastern Conference.
The Lynx ended up losing despite as many as five players finishing in double digits, with Alanna Smith leading the way with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Cecilia Zandalasini returned with 10 points from the bench while Kayla McBride had a bit of an off day with her shooting, finishing with 11 points and three assists.
Regardless, it was a team effort from the Fever, who saw Kelsey Mitchell leading the charge with 21 points and four rebounds, alongside three assists. Aliyah Boston had another humongous double-double, as she finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Caitlin Clark had 17 points and 6 assists.
In recent games, the Fever has shown that they are perfectly capable of sharing offensive responsibility, with Caitlin Clark being forced to do a bit too much since the start of the season. This has led to some impressive performances of late, even as defensive frailties continue to show themselves every game. Christie Sides will be hoping her team can continue the upward curve as they prepare to take on the Dallas Wings.
