DiJonai Carrington fires back against online "hate" and mockery of her grandfather's death
On November 30, DiJonai Carrington announced the death of her grandfather in her Instagram story. In a sad message that the Sun's star wrote in dedication to her "biggest fan," Carrington wrote that she was heartbroken but also glad that she was able to spend time with him before his death.
However, on December 2, Carrington made a post on X, formerly Twitter, and called out the "hate" being incited on her by some individuals.
"wow. mocking my grandfather’s death & our family’s pain/mourning as a way to incite hate on me, once again, because of a basketball game is just so vile," she wrote.
"whoever you are, I pray God heals that hate in your heart & that evil spirit within you. Matt 5:44-45."
However, even when the 2024 WNBA Most Improved Player was disheartened by the hate comments on social media, she acknowledged the condolences and prayers that came her way from many others.
"Thank you for all the love, condolences, & prayers as well. I don’t only see the hate and negativity."
"Unfortunately, at a time like this, the bad just hits harder. But I truly do appreciate all of the love fr!! 🍯🙏🏽."
DiJonai Carrington will next take part in the inaugural "Unrivaled" league starting in January next year. She will represent Mist Basketball Club with Breanna Stewart and others.
