Golden State Valkyries guard Kate Martin and girlfriend Claire Gransee are using the WNBA offseason to spend quality time together. They recently went on a romantic escape and shared snaps from the trip on social media.
Gransee took to her Instagram stories and posted photos of her lovely getaway with her hooper-girlfriend. The stories showed them staying in a cabin amid the woods.
Kate Martin and Gransee met at the University of Iowa where they both attended college. They made their relationship public in June this year as Martin started her WNBA journey after being selected by the Las Vegas Aces in the second round of the 2024 WNBA draft.
As per her LinkedIn profile, Gransee currently works as a Human Resources Associate at digital consultancy firm Publicis Sapient. At Iowa, she graduated with a degree in Communications Studies.
Martin, meanwhile, played limited minutes with the Aces in her rookie season and posted 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in close to 12 minutes in 34 games with the Aces. The former Iowa star's stay in Las Vegas was however cut short as she was placed in the expansion draft and was selected by the Valkyries, who are set to make their WNBA debut next season.
Kate Martin excited to play for new WNBA team Golden State Valkyries
While enjoying her time with her partner in the offseason, Kate Martin is looking forward to the beginning of a new journey with the Golden State Valykries after being one of 11 players selected in the expansion draft earlier this month.
She said she welcomed the fresh start while vowing to do her best with her new ball club.
"It's a pretty cool opportunity," Martin said per Yahoo sports. "I feel grateful to be part of it. It's a part of history, a new WNBA team. They (league) haven't had an expansion draft in a really long time. It's something super cool to be part of, and I feel really grateful that they chose me. It's just going to be a lot of fun."
"It's just going to be a lot of fun. Obviously they're (Valkyries) going to be aggressive, and we're going to have more people added. That makes it really fun, seeing the roster come together and what it's going to be, how training camp is going to look," the guard added.
Before she plunges into action for the Valkyries, Kate Martin will be seen in the newly formed 3-on-3 Unrivaled Basketball League, which is set to tip off on Jan. 17 in Miami, Florida. She is one of 36 WNBA players who will feature in the inaugural season of the league.
