Breanna Stewart won her third WNBA championship and first with the New York Liberty. The WNBA star and her team will celebrate their championship parade in the city on Oct. 24. Stewart and her family are ready to participate in the first-ever Liberty championship parade.
Ahead of the big occasion, the two-time MVP was seen posing for a picture with her wife, Marta Xargay, and their two children in New York City. In the picture, Stewart held their daughter Ruby, and Martha held their son Theo Josep Stewart Xargay.
Stewart wore a black jacket over a white T-shirt and paired it with black pants. In support of her wife, Xargay wore a pair of printed pants and paired it with a leather jacket over a T-shirt with Stewart's picture printed on it.
The 2024 WNBA champions will organize their parade at 10 pm ET. The event will start at Battery Place, and their next stop is on Broadway. The parade's next destination will be at Canyon of Heroes, reaching the final destination at City Hall.
Stewart had been the Finals MVP in the last two championships that she won with the Seattle Storm. She didn't have a dominant WNBA Finals run, tallying only 93 total points in five games. She shot under 30% in three of the five games. Jonquel Jones was declared the 2024 Finals MVP.
Breanna Stewart reveals her wife Marta Xargay got threatening, anti-gay emails
The New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart revealed that her wife Martha Xargay received threatening homophobic emails after Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.
The Liberty star said that Xargay receiving those emails while she was absent was something that was concerning for her. She also added that the couple are prioritizing their kids' safety.
"The fact it came to Marta's email is something she (had to) see. The level of closeness was a little bit different," she said. "Make sure that myself and Marta are OK, but that our kids are the safest."
"I think that for Marta, especially, I think it was, it is, terrifying," ESPN reported Stewart as saying.
The two-time MVP said that since Game 1, the threats had been increasing in her wife's inbox. She also addressed that while this shows how involved the fans are in the sports, homophobic threats should not be allowed into sports.
The Liberty entered Game 1 of the Finals against the Minnesota Lynx. However, the team lost the game in overtime. Stewart scored 13 points on 26.7% shooting from the field.
Breanna Stewart and Marta Xargay's romance started in 2019. Just after two years, the couple got married in July 2021. Since then, the couple have built a home together with their two kids.
