Last season, Lexie Hull played a key part in the Indiana Fever ending their postseason drought after eight years. Fresh off her best season in the pros, the young guard finds herself linked to the hot new product in women's basketball.
Unlike NBA players, the women in the WNBA compete year-round in other leagues to further support themselves financially. Created by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, a new outlet has come out for players.
The two stars launched the "Unrivaled" league, a 3-on-3 league that is set to debut in Miami this upcoming January.
On Wednesday afternoon, Lexie Hull was announced as the second-to-last player to join the league. Following this announcement, fans took to social media to applaud the Fever guard.
Other fans are creating a dream team of Hull, Kate Martin and Caitlin Clark. Martin and Clark played alongside each other in college, while Hull has become good friends with the star guard on the Fever.
"Lexie, CC, Kate all on the same team going to be epic," one fan said.
"C squared where you at? unrivaled bringing her college bff AND fever bff," another fan said.
"Dang yall really getting all the CC friends…," said one fan.
Hull, 25, was one of the WNBA's top 3-point shooters last season (47.1%). Across 34 games, she averaged 5.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists.
Lexie Hull has some experience in a 3-on-3 basketball setting
For most of these players, the Unrivaled league will be their first taste of playing 3-on-3 basketball in a competitive setting. However, that won't be the case for Lexie Hull.
Over the past decade, 3-on-3 basketball has risen to prominence around the world. Not only does it have its own World Cup, but it is an event in the Summer Olympics now as well.
Fresh off her first season in the WNBA, Hull competed in 3-on-3 women's basketball for Team USA. The team had great success that year, bringing home a silver medal.
Looking ahead to Unrivaled's first season, Hull will have a chance to further test her skills alongside the WNBA's top talents. Among the other players suiting up include Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young and DiJonai Carrington.
As of now, Hull is the only player on the Fever who is competing in the Unrivaled league. Reports have surfaced that there is interest in bringing in Caitlin Clark, but the final spot remains vacant.
