Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston continues to follow college sports as part of her WNBA offseason. Over the past few weeks, she has shared stories on Instagram featuring South Carolina’s women’s college basketball players.
On Sunday, she gave her flowers to the Nebraska Huskers, one of the elite contenders for the women’s college volleyball championship. Boston wrote on Instagram following the Huskers’ 3-0 sweep of the Wisconsin Badgers:
“On to the final four we go!!! #ProudFan”
No. 3-ranked Nebraska hosted Wisconsin before a jam-packed crowd at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Huskers eked past the Badgers in the first set 26-24 before running away from the visitors 25-17 the following set. Wisconsin seemed poised to win the third set, leading 15-11 before Nebraska surged to the finish line. The Huskers completed the sweep with a 25-21 third-set win.
The Huskers’ win pushed them to their seventh semifinals in 10 years, the most in the NCAA Division 1 during that span. Nebraska hopes to return to the championship game after losing to three-peat-looking Texas in 2023. Boston is excited to see her team move on to Louisville for the semis.
Aliyah Boston shares her high school Worcester jersey retirement on Instagram
Before toasting Nebraska University for its win against Wisconsin, Aliyah Boston shared a glimpse of a recent accomplishment. On Saturday, Worcester Academy in Worcester, Massachusetts, retired Boston’s high school jersey number, the first such retirement in its history.
The Indiana Fever star had this to say during her acceptance speech:
“It’s just crazy to think that a little girl from the island, who dreamed big, who wrote down her goals and believed in God is right now standing here in front of you.”
Aliyah Boston earned Gatorade Massachusetts Player of the Year honors in 2017, 2018 and 2019 while playing for Worcester. She caught national media attention while playing for the team and became a five-star recruit.
From New England, she took her talents to South Carolina, where she led the Gamecocks to the 2022 national championship.
