Connecticut Sun shooting guard DiJonai Carrington hit the headlines after releasing a video on her Instagram Live about a disagreement with an Uber driver. Earlier on Friday, Carrington and her friends could be seen getting out of an Uber and speaking with the driver.
After reportedly being kicked out of the car and the driver threatening to call the cops, the WNBA star can be seen calling out the driver and making the following claim.
"I don't know why white people think they can get away with trying to scare black people by only saying, 'Oh, I'm gonna call the police.' Ok, and we did nothing wrong, so that's fine," said Carrington.
"Here he is ladies and gentlemen. Live and in the flesh for you to see. He tried to kidnap us and take us. Look, now he's trying to talk to our next Uber driver. Let's see how this goes," added Carrington.
The video has attracted significant attention on social media, with numerous fans believing the athlete's behavior was inappropriate.
"Proving herself to be a race baiter! Yuck," said one fan.
"What is DiJonai Carrington hootin and hollering about now?," commented another fan.
"So I read about the whole DiJonai Carrington thing that happened, but how was that alleged kidnapping?," said one fan.
"It’s simply the victim mentality that she leans into so well," said a fan.
"Dijonai Carrington literally tried to Jussie Smollet an Uber driver she thought was white," commented another fan.
While many questioned the WNBA star's behavior, some fans stood up for the 26-year-old guard.
"If yall don’t like Dijonai Carrington? Why do you go to her page and watch what she doing? lol. Like who cares bro y’all complain about every little thing," said one fan.
"Dijonai haters are the most pathetic losers on earth," said another fan.
Things seemed to cool down after Carrington and her friends called a second ride, which arrived shortly after.
The WNBA season ended in October and will only restart in April 2025. Carrington, however, will participate in the inaugural edition of the women's basketball tournament Unrivaled, which will begin in January in Miami.
