Kate Martin was one of the picks by the Golden State Valkyries in the 2024 WNBA expansion draft on Friday. Martin was left unprotected by the Las Vegas Aces and has packed her bags for California. She also had her fans in splits after making a "U-Haul" joke during documentation of her final day in Sin City.
In a post on TOGETHXR's Instagram account, Martin shared her last day in Las Vegas with her girlfriend, Claire Gransee. They first went to their favorite breakfast place before emptying her Aces locker. They then packed her boxes with her stuff before making the "U-Haul" joke when the moving van was shown.
To cap off the day, they had dinner and went to Cirque du Soleil's "Mad Apple" with now ex-teammates Kiah Stokes and Alysha Clark. Martin will be playing her second season in San Francisco and will likely have a bigger role compared to being a bench player in Las Vegas.
WNBA fans were sad to see Kate Martin leave Las Vegas but found her "U-Haul" joke funny. For those who don't know, it was a stereotypical joke about lesbians moving in with each other pretty quickly.
Here are some of the best comments via Instagram:
"Kate is a queer icon," a fan commented.
"Good U-Haul joke, Kate," one fan wrote.
"Kate took the season of giving literal, Merry Christmas to all the girls watching this and dying," another fan remarked.
Martin played 34 games for the Aces, starting in two of them. She averaged just 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. However, she's one of the most popular players on the team, with her jerseys being one of the best sellers in the entire WNBA.
"The U-Haul bit was *chef’s kiss*," a fan quipped.
"Got the U-Haul, iykyk" KAAAAAAATTTEEEE," one fan replied.
"The Uhaul jokes though," another fan responded.
