Rickea Jackson reacted to Washington Mystics forward Aaliyah Edwards' recent Instagram story. Edwards flaunted her all-black outfit on Friday. She captioned her post with lyrics from Kendrick Lamar’s hit song “Luther,” as she rocked a black see-through dress, silver glasses, and high, pointed boots.
“In this world, concrete flowers grow🌹🤎,” the Mystics forward said.
Jackson, who will be Edwards’ teammate with the Mist BC in the Unrivaled league, praised last year’s Mystics lottery pick with a two-word reaction to her post.
“Okkk baddieeee😍😍,” she said.
Aside from Jackson and Edwards, their Unrivaled squad also includes Connecticut Sun’s DiJonai Carrington, Seattle Storm’s Jewell Loyd, and New York Liberty’s duo Breanna Stewart and Courtney Vandersloot. The team will be coached by veteran NBA assistant coach Phil Handy, who once mentored the Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors, and the LA Lakers.
Jackson and Edwards are expected to banner the squad in the new 3-on-3 basketball league, co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier.
Edwards, who was picked sixth by the Wizards in the 2024 WNBA draft, averaged 7.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in her first season in the professional league.
Meanwhile, Jackson was selected fourth overall in the same draft, averaging 13.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists for the LA Sparks.
Jackson, Edwards, and Chicago Sky’s star Angel Reese will be the only three 2024 rookies in the Unrivaled League. Brink signed in the league but will not play in the 2025 season, as she is still recovering from a torn ACL.
The league will tip off on January 17, 2025, in Miami, Florida.
Rickea Jackson hopes to learn more and more, especially in the defensive side, in her career
Rickea Jackson wants to continue improving as a player. During the 2024 WNBA season, she aimed to learn everything she could during her first year in the league with a focus on the defensive end.
“In the beginning of the year, I was still learning things … I feel like as long as I stay within it and stay learning and being a sponge, I feel like I was going to get to this level. My confidence has grown a ton and I’ve really been focusing on my defense.
"So I feel like all and all that has helped me stay on the court more and be more confident,” Jackson told reporters in one of the pre-game interviews in August 29.
Jackson played all 40 games for the Sparks, giving their fans optimism for the future despite finishing the season with a league-worst 8-32 record.
She was also included in the All-Rookie team as she shone for the Sparks as one of its franchise cornerstones.
