New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu is in the middle of the 2024 WNBA offseason after becoming a champion for the first time following a dramatic series with the Minnesota Lynx. The guard is enjoying the sweet taste of victory and is seemingly having fun while the Liberty returns to action to defend the first title in franchise history.
Ionescu and her future sister-in-law, Sophia Isabella, posed for a joint selfie shared on Instagram stories. Sophia even made fun of the duck faces they made for the picture.
"no one: us:😘😘," she captioned the post.
Sabrina Ionescu and Sophia Isabella have had a close relationship. Isabella has shown her support to Ionescu before, especially during the 2024 WNBA Finals. Eddy Ionescu's girlfriend attended Game 2 of the championship series alongside her boyfriend. The Liberty tied the series 1-1 after the second duel, showing they weren't done with an 80-66 outcome.
Isabella took it to Instagram after that game, too, and shared a selfie of herself and Eddy sitting courtside.
"Game 2 let's go 🗽," Sophia wrote.
The connection between Sabrina Ionescu and her twin brother is strong. She and Eddy were born 18 minutes apart in Walnut Creek, California, in 1997.
They were passionate about basketball from a young age, which ultimately led both to represent the Oregon Ducks in college basketball. Ionescu was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft after a fruitful tenure in Oregon, while Eddy only played five games in two seasons.
Sabrina Ionescu named a top 5 WNBA player by popular on-camera host
After a terrific 2024 WNBA season, Sabrina Ionescu can call herself a WNBA champion. Her performances in her five-year career have earned her a lot of fans, including the admiration of popular on-camera journalist Speedy Morman. During a Thursday appearance on Angel Reese, the host heaped high praise on Ionescu.
"Angel Reese, first and foremost, that's my dawg. Sabrina [Ionescu] is like that.
"Shoutout to Sabrina. A'ja's one of ones; shoutout to Stewie [Breanna Stewart] as well, WNBA champion. Shoutout to Jonquel Jones, also one of them ones. Shoutout to Lexie Brown, she's one of them ones. Yeah, I love the WNBA." (19:40 mark)
Ionescu is already one of the biggest names in the WNBA, and her Finals victory only added more to her young legacy. But for her, it seems that family is also one of her biggest wins.
