Sabrina Ionescu revealed that Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry was ecstatic after she made a game-winning shot in Game 3 of the 2024 WNBA Finals against the Minnesota Lynx. Ionescu went from bad to good and finished the game on a strong note, taking her defender near the logo and pulling the trigger to give her team the 80-77 win and the 2-1 lead in the series.
After everything was said and done, Ionescu received plenty of messages. Talking with ESPN's Malika Andrews on Thursday, the veteran guard said many people reached out to her after sinking that 3-pointer. The best message she received was from Curry, who was going crazy after that shot.
"I would say Steph Curry left me a really funny voice memo of him just screaming into the phone," Ionescu said. "And that was fun because we just have a great relationship and he's been a big mentor of mine and obviously through this finals, was just helping me mentally and physically, just stay ready and locked in. I'm excited to get one more."
Curry and Ionescu have had a close relationship for many years. They even clashed with one another in a 3-point contest in the 2024 All-Star Weekend after Ionescu broke the record for the most 3-pointers in a contest in both WNBA and NBA.
Curry has a couple of big-time shots in the playoffs, and Ionescu certainly emulated him with his step-back bomb. Now, the Liberty will try to steal another game at Target Center to end the season and win their first WNBA championship.
Steph Curry had a 3-word reaction to Sabrina Ionescu's game-sealing shot
Besides sending that voice message to Sabrina Ionescu's phone, Steph Curry hyped up the former No. 1 overall pick with a three-word message on social media.
"Call game them @sabrina_i20," the four-time NBA champion tweeted Wednesday night.
Other stars like Kevin Durant and Victor Oladipo hailed Ionescu after this moment. Game 4 of the Finals is scheduled for Friday, with the Liberty trying to finish the job while the Lynx will try to extend the series for one more game.
New York has played in six WNBA Finals and this is the best chance for the team to put their hands on that elusive trophy. Game 4 should be another show, and Ionescu could shine again with her shooting skills.
