Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty tied the 2024 WNBA Finals at 1-1 after beating the Minnesota Lynx 80-66 on Sunday in Game 2. Ionescu's brother, Eddy Ionescu, was in attendance along with his girlfriend, Sophia Isabella, to cheer the Liberty on.
In a post on Instagram, Sophia shared a selfie of herself with Eddy sitting courtside to support Sabrina and the Liberty. New York was in danger of going down 2-0 in the WNBA Finals but didn't blow its big lead in Game 2.
"Game 2 let's go 🗽," Sophia wrote.
Eddy Ionescu is the younger twin brother of Sabrina Ionescu, who was born 18 minutes earlier on Dec. 6, 1997, in Walnut Creek, California. The twins grew up playing basketball, with Sabrina going to Oregon in college before getting drafted first overall by the New York Liberty in 2020.
Meanwhile, Eddy also played college basketball for Oregon, but only for two seasons and just five total games, as per ESPN. Eddy has been dating Sophia Isabella for a while now, and she even caught the bouquet at Sabrina's wedding to Hroniss Grasu earlier this year.
Sabrina even teased Sophia and her brother that they might be next:
"Oooo someone caught the bouquet 👀🤍."
Eddy and Sophia spent the summer in Paris, supporting Sabrina and Team USA at the Olympics. They shared several photos about their trip on Sophia's Instagram account.
Sabrina Ionescu scores 15 points in Liberty's win over Lynx in Game 2
Just like in Game 1 of the 2024 WNBA Finals, the New York Liberty jumped into an early lead in the first quarter. But unlike Game 1, the Liberty held on to their lead to beat the Minnesota Lynx in Game 2. Breanna Stewart led the way with 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Betnijah Laney-Hamilton contributed 20 points, two rebounds and two assists, hitting four 3-point shots. Sabrina Ionescu added 15 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals. She also had a +/- of 20, the highest among Liberty players.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Ionescu gave a shoutout to Laney-Hamilton for stepping up in Game 2.
"She played a huge role in the game ending up in the way that it did and she’s gonna continue to do it for these next two games," Ionescu said, according to the New York Times. "We believe in her. She knows that."
Game 3 of the 2024 WNBA Finals will be on Wednesday at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Game 4 will remain at the Lynx's homecourt on Oct. 18.
