Basketball fans candidly reacted to the Seattle Storm's remaining $704 cap space after the franchise recently inked a deal with France star Gabby Williams. According to Her Hoop Stats' Richard Cohen, the Western Conference team can sign a player with a tiny $704 cap space after signing Williams to a $23,491 rest-of-season pro-rated vet minimum contract for the remainder of the season.

"Can confirm via source that Gabby Williams signed for the $23,491 that was the pro-rated vet minimum on Tuesday when she signed. So Seattle have $704 in cap space left - technically enough to add a 12th player on the final day of the regular season," Cohen said in tweet on X/Twitter.

Fans quickly turned to social media to drop their reactions to Cohen's tweet. One fan struggled to get their head around the math when it comes to the WNBA:

"WNBA roster math is so wild because what do you mean we have $704 in cap space."

Another fan comically hinted that the remaining amount could be enough for a pizza party:

"Then they can throw a pizza party at the end of the year."

A few fans were puzzled by how the Storm's remaining budget is sufficient enough to sign a new player:

"And why is that potentially enough money to sign a player for the last day of the season into the playoffs lol," a fan wrote.
"EASILY the worst part is that they can SIGN A PLAYER USING THAT? HOW?" asked another fan.

One fan revealed what they would do if they signed with the franchise for the remaining amount:

"I’ll happily go sit on their bench for $704. As long as I can get a selfie with all my favorite players."

Another X user had a unique view on Seattle's remaining cap space:

"Crazy that they are going to sign someone to a contract that is paid in an Amazon gift card and a full tank of gas."

Seattle Storm brings back Gabby Williams

Seattle Storm on Tuesday announced the signing of Gabby Williams for the remainder of the season. The WNBA franchise showed trust in Williams after she won the Best Defensive Player award and was included in the All-Star Five at the 2024 Paris Olympics after winning the silver medal.

Seattle (18-10) is currently ranked fourth in the overall WNBA standings, and Williams' signing is primarily aimed at a deep playoff run. Along with Jewell Loyd, Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith, Williams' two-way game could prove to be a major boost to their chances of fighting for the title this season.

The former Chicago Sky forward is expected to make her season debut for Seattle on Monday at home against the Washington Mystics at Climate Pledge Arena. Notably, Williams has had two prior stints with the Seattle Storm in the league.
