Indiana Fever star rookie Caitlin Clark hyped the away crowd while exiting their matchup against the Chicago Sky on Friday. The Wintrust Arena responded with a roar of cheers to Clark's gestures, which led the game's announcer to ask a question:
"Is this enemy territory? I've seen a lot of Caitlin Clark jerseys in downtown Chicago today," the announcer said.
Fever's social media handles posted a video of the moment as they took a jab at the Sky after handing them a blowout 100-81 loss on the night.
Despite playing in "enemy territory", the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 WNBA draft seemed to have turned the crowd in her favor with her charisma and electrifying performance. Earlier in the game, Clark was seen indulging the crowd when she drew a foul while attempting a basket, asking courtside fans if the ball went in.
Caitlin Clark exited the game with just under four minutes remaining as the Fever led by 27 points at that point. The WNBA All-Star put a double-double performance in the game with her career-high 31 points, along with 12 assists, four rebounds and one steal to lead the Fever to the road victory.
Caitlin Clark wins regular season series against Angel Reese
Friday's matchup between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky featured a much-anticipated showdown between the league's star rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The game was reportedly the most expensive WNBA clash on record, with TickPick listing the average ticket price at $334.
With the win, Indiana won the regular season series against Chicago 3-1 after they previously blew a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter to lose their third encounter. The win is expected to significantly boost Clark's case against Reese in their head-to-head race for the Rookie of the Year honor.
While Caitlin Clark led the Fever's victory charge with her efficient performance, Angel Reese also recorded a double-double stat line of 10 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal on the night. It was Reese's 23rd double-double of the season, securing her the WNBA record for most double-doubles in a season by a rookie.
With the win, the Fever climbed to sixth place overall in the WNBA standings with a 16-16 record, now riding a three-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Sky suffered their fifth consecutive loss, subsequently slipping to an 11-20 record, just enough to hold on to eighth place in the overall standings as they look to secure a postseason berth.
