"She's too desperate for attention" - WNBA fans hit frenzy as Angel Reese deactivates her IG account following viral New Year post

After a stellar rookie year that saw Angel Reese set the WNBA's double-double record, she is gearing up for the inaugural season of Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier's Unrivaled 3x3 league. Heading into the new year, which will see Reese play for Unrivaled before the start of the 2025 WNBA season, she posted a photo of her New Year's Eve outfit on Instagram.

The post caught the attention of fans as Reese showed off some skin with her dress. Many of the comments were positive, with fans praising Reese for her ability to pull off the dress.

However, others criticized the Chicago Sky star, saying that she showed too much skin.

On Thursday, Reese deactivated her Instagram account without warning.

WNBA fans were quick to react to the news, with a wide range of responses.

"She'll be back. She's too desperate for attention to be gone long," one fan wrote.

"Finally about time she focused on basketball instead of being a instagram model," another fan said.

Some suggested that the move may have had little to do with her NYE post, but rather the start of the upcoming Unrivaled season.

"I think she did it because she’s about to start playing again and needs to stay focused and away from social media it’s a big distraction," one fan wrote.

While Angel Reese deleted her Instagram account on Thursday, her X account is still active. It still lists Reese's Instagram handle in the bio despite it being taken offline.

Although Reese hasn't given any sort of indication as to whether she deleted her account because of the controversy from her post, or because of the start of Unrivaled, she shared a cryptic post from music artist SZA.

"YOUR LIFE IS YOURS !!!YOURSSS!!! Not anybody else’s!! Not the ones disappointed not the ones talking sh** not the ones that never sent an apology not the ones snickering or judging not the ones w stake in the game . THE COFFIN ONLY HAS ROOM FOR ONE. YOU . Live . F**k it," SZA's tweet read.

The inaugural Unrivaled season is set to tip off on Jan. 17 with games airing on TNT. Reese and the Rose Basketball Club will play their first game at 8:15 p.m. ET against Vinyl Basketball Club — the second game of opening day.

Reese's teammates are Chelsea Gray, Brittney Sykes, Kahleah Copper, Azurá Stevens and Lexie Hull.
