Caitlin Clark, the top candidate for the WNBA's Rookie of the Year, had some high praise for A'ja Wilson as they face each other on Wednesday. Wilson is having the best year of her career with the Las Vegas Aces this season. She's played 34 games and wreaked havoc on both ends of the court. The forward is averaging 27.3 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks.
The 6-foot-4 forward has been a reliable shooter, making 52.7% of her field goal attempts. She's also shooting 33.9% from beyond the arc, marking the second-highest 3-point efficiency of her career. The veteran forward is the favorite to win the MVP award.
When asked about Wilson's season during Tuesday's practice session, Clark said:
"She’s pretty incredible. You watch her, and it’s just unguardable; there's nothing anybody can do to stop it. She's just that dominant; whether it's her mid-range game, she can put it on the floor, and she's just so athletic. But also she affects the game on both sides, she's a really good defensive player, a great rim protector, just so athletic. And obviously, she's been able to shoot the three pretty well this season, it's fun to watch.
"Everybody in the league knows you can’t guard it, you basically live with what she’s going to do to you every single night. You contain it as best you can and she's gonna make some shots that are really tough."
Indiana and Las Vegas will have back-to-back games to end their season series. Like Wilson, Clark has also impressed fans with her performance this season. She's averaging 19.2 ppg, 5.8 rpg and 8.5 apg as a rookie.
Caitlin Clark gets a compliment from a basketball legend
Caitlin Clark received a compliment from NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal. On Aug. 30, O'Neal went to Chicago to watch Angel Reese take on Clark. In the end, he left the arena impressed with the former Iowa star.
"When I see stuff on TV I’m like, OK, I’d like to see it in person. Well, I saw it in person," Shaq said. "She can play. From a basketball standpoint, she makes all the right plays, gets everybody involved and she has that Steph Curry range."
Clark continues to impress fans and even basketball legends. She's proven she has what it takes to be a star in the league.
