NaLyssa Smith's future with the Indiana Fever seems bleak. Last season, the Fever forward averaged 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game.
To make the situation worse, Smith's girlfriend DiJonai Carrington called out the Indiana Fever fans as the nastiest in the league. In her latest Instagram story, Smith shared a cryptic message about her uncertain future.
"Life is all about knowing your worth, don't stay nowhere u not wanted n appreciated."
One fan on X called Smith shameless for not cutting back on her cryptic messages.
"She’s so shameless she brought this onto herself and still can’t stop yapping."
Other fans joined the bandwagon and expressed similar views.
"you are the worst defender in the league at your position and can’t make a FT for sh*t but apparently we don’t know your worth," a fan said.
"I wonder why you aren't wanted hmmm," another fan said.
"can’t wait for her to be off my team, she think this sh*t a reality tv show," another fan said.
One fan highlighted the damage of Smith's girlfriend's comments on Fever fans did.
"She can't be this slow. Your gf insulted an entire fever fanbase. Does she think they will move on like nothing happened. I mean, she did it multiple times."
"Bridge is burnt. Irreparable damage. It is what it is," another fan said.
Smith is currently playing for the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in the Women's Chinese Basketball Association during the WNBA offseason. She enters the final season of her contract with Fever in the 2025 WNBA season. It is still unclear if she will stay at Indiana or move on after the campaign. If the Fever don't re-sign her, she will become a restricted free agent.
