In her newly launched podcast "Unapologetically Angel," Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese shared her desire to develop into a stretch four in the WNBA, focusing on improving her offensive game beyond the paint. Fans, however, raised concerns about her efficiency numbers.
Reese, who currently leads the league in rebounds and plays as a power forward, partners with fellow rookie Kamilla Cardoso at center for the Sky.
On her podcast, Reese discussed her ambition to evolve into a stretch four as she continues her growth in the league.
“I haven’t even been able to tap into who I really am and my potential of being able to be that stretch 4 position, and just being able to be that,” she said. “So, people also need to give that some grace too. I’m still a rookie; I’m still figuring it out.”
Fans on X (formerly Twitter) were quick to criticize Angel Reese’s shooting efficiency, noting that a stretch four typically excels in shooting from longer distances than a conventional power forward.
“Did she say “Stretch 4”? She’s shooting 15% from 3,” said @BIGMEM12.
User @SchifinoFan said Reese should first work on her close-range game:
“She should focus on being a close 4 first.”
“Can’t even stretch it past 3 feet, tf she talking about,” added @boshnotz1.
User @SnoopVonPoop added:
“Better do some more layup drills!”
Other reactions to Angel Reese’s stretch four ambitions followed a similar tone:
“Why don’t you start by learning how to make a layup? Cool? Cool,” @Challllss said.
“I agree with most of what she said, except for stretch 4. I want her to be dominant inside to be able to finish them layups and/or put backs. Master that then work on that stretch 4. Overall awesome ass rookie year. Any other year she would be ROTY,” said @ManLook75
“Does she know what a stretch 4 is? Not sure she got the game for that,” said @0noriode.

According to WNBA's shot distance stats, she converts 43.5% of her shots from within five feet, but her efficiency drops to 11.1% from five to nine feet and 33.3% from 10 to 14 feet. She shoots 37.0% from 15 to 19 feet, 19.0% from 20 to 24 feet and 0% from beyond 25 feet.
