DiJonai Carrington of the Connecticut Sun recently lost her grandfather. She paid tribute to him with a heartwarming post on her Instagram, which was also shared by her fans on Twitter. However, it seems like teammate Marina Mabrey made an inappropriate comment about it.
In a post on her Instagram stories, Carrington wrote a heartfelt message for her grandfather. She appreciated the support throughout her career and the love she received from him.
"He fought so hard and through so much pain," Carrington wrote. "My only solace is knowin' that he can now rest in peace with grandma and the Lord. I'll never have to right words to express what he means to me. Really my guy fr. & never missed a game in phx from a kid to the WNBA.
"Thank you for fighting so I could be by your side for your last days on this earth. My heart is just broken, everything is broken but I know God is a God of love and I have to hold onto that."
On Saturday, Marina Mabrey's X account replied to a fan post on X about Carrington's message with a seemingly NSFW remark.
WNBA fans quickly reacted to the comment and their initial thought was Mabrey was probably hacked or it was a typo. Nevertheless, they urged her to delete it immediately.
"She thought she was on her burner," a fan wrote.
"Either she got hacked or she fell asleep on her phone cause the random letters?" one fan asked.
"Sister wake up before they get here omg," another fan tweeted.
Other fans shared their reactions to Mabrey's comment.
"Lawd somebody get Marina so she can delete this PLEASE," a fan commented.
"Girl what even happened plz say you got hacked or some sh*t cause dawg," one fan pleaded.
"People thinking she would ever tweet this on purpose are stupid," another fan remarked.
Marina Mabrey and DiJonai Carrington became teammates midway through the season after the Connecticut Sun acquired her from the Chicago Sky.
Mabrey has one year left in her contract with the Connecticut Sun, while Carrington is a restricted free agent. She can sign with a different team, but the Sun have the right to match any contract.
