Fans have patiently waited for Sheryl Swoopes to compliment Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark this season. Despite Clark's outstanding play, Swoopes has still not acknowledged her. When confronted about her silence, the former Houston Comets star took to X to explain her side on Wednesday.
The former player clarified her statement about not recognizing Clark as a result of the discussion surrounding the young star. Swoopes also explained her non-employment with the league.
"No, it's in response to y'all saying the WNBA should fire me. I am not employed by them," Swoopes said. "Do y'all ask @stephenasmith and others to acknowledge other W players? I mean, there are so many great players to talk about in the league. It is OK to do that!"
Swoopes is part of the broadcast team for the Dallas Wings. Although she doesn't work directly for the league, the company she works for is part of the WNBA.
Sheryl Swoopes attacks fans on social media
Sheryl Swoopes hasn't been getting on fans' good side recently as she has tried to defend herself online. A fan recognized how Swoopes went silent during a broadcast when Clark's recent Player of the Week award was the topic of discussion.
A fan brought it up on X and another fan chimed in. The fan, @CeeDeesTDs88, replied under the initial post and called the former star a "b***h."
"That b***h knows to keep her mouth shut before Stephen A come back around lol."
Swoopes saw what other fans called her and didn't let it go easily.
"Nah, you the b**ch! You bow down to Stephen A and all the rest of them," Swoopes posted.
As Swoopes' relationship with a lot of fans has gone sour, it'll be interesting to see the next episode of this saga.
