As the U.S. presidential election day approaches, WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes made one last plea for American voters. Swoopes called for everyone eligible to vote on the presidential election day.

The 3x WNBA MVP winner took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to request citizens exercise their right to vote for their presidential bet. Her post did not directly mention the presidential candidates - Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris.

“PLEASE VOTE!!!!,” said Swoopes.

Trump will represent the Republican party in the Presidential race, while Harris will be the Democratic party's candidate.

While the WNBA legend has remained far from any public political stances, other players, coaches, and personalities in the basketball world have since made their endorsements since the start of the presidential campaign.

Basketball stars such as Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr have expressed their support for Kamala Harris. In the WNBA, Phoenix Mercury’s Natasha Cloud has been a staunch critic of Trump as she believes Harris would be the best candidate for the United States.

On the other hand, Trump has gained support from Orlando Magic’s forward Jonathan Isaac. Aside from him, Trump has not been too popular in the basketball fraternity.

Sheryl Swoopes denies voting against Caitlin Clark in the WNBA Rookie of the Year race

Sheryl Swoopes got notoriety this season as she became a vocal critic of Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. So when Clark, picked first in the 2024 WNBA Draft, was one vote away from being a unanimous Rookie of the Year winner this season, fans were quick to point at Swoopes following the voting turnout.

Swoopes cleared the air on the issue in her appearance at the “Levels To This” podcast. The four-time WNBA champion said she was not the one who voted against Clark in the ROY voting, revealing that she did not get a vote in any of the season awards.

“First of all, congratulations to Caitlin very well deserved. She had a hell of a rookie year doing things that just haven't been done by a rookie before," Swoopes said.
"But I hate to disappoint the people...You all cannot blame this one on me. I don't get a vote. I've never had a vote in any of the awards," she added.

Throughout the 2024 WNBA season, Sheryl Swoopes leaned more toward Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese as the best rookie.

However, Swoopes has since detracted from her initial thoughts, saying that Clark has separated herself from the race after an impressive run to end the season as she brought the Indiana Fever to the playoffs.
