WNBA fans didn't take long to react to an interesting video featuring Caitlin Clark. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft has been the subject of some rough plays from opponents, sounding the alarm for people around the NBA world like Charles Barkley and LeBron James.
A short clip shows Clark going up to NaLyssa Smith before the forward grabs Clark by her arms, turns her around and tells her to go to a certain spot on the court. The young guard looked a little upset initially but then smiled as she walked away.
Plenty of fans had something to say about this, having mixed reactions to this sequence. A group of them questioned why Smith didn't act this way when Chennedy Carter pushed Caitlin Clark last week or if the former Iowa superstar was being bullied by her teammates.
"Should’ve had that energy with Carter," one fan said.
"What happened here it looks like beef," another fan wondered.
"YOU SEE!!!! BULLYING!!!! I KNEW IT!!!! Lol," a fan wrote.
Another group of fans had jokes about this situation, some claiming they were just playing and being surprised by Clark's reaction to Smith's actions.
"she saying 'go over there rookie' 🤣🤣 those 2 are fun to watch," this fan wrote.
It's easy to see why some fans took exception to these actions, although they were seemingly done in good light. Clark's teammates were nowhere to be found last week when Carter pushed her to the ground.
Even former NBA champion Matt Barnes called them out for not standing up for their teammate in a moment of tension.
Caitlin Clark discussed how she's been dealing with the buzz around Chennedy Carter incident
While plenty of people keep talking about this situation, Caitlin Clark has admitted she's not paying much attention to the comments. She told reporters today that she's trying to block all the noise about the Carter incident and remains focused on basketball.
"I try to block it out," Clark said (via USA Today). "I don’t have social media on my phone, I don’t go on it, I don’t see a lot of it. But I don’t really think it’s that different from when I was in college. Everybody is going to have their opinion, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, and that’s just what it is.
"I think you’ve just got to be focused on what’s in your locker room, what’s in your organization, how your teammates feel, how your coaches feel, and for me that’s my focus but also I have a job to do at the same time so that’s where my focus remains.”
Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever (2-9) will face the winless Washington Mystics (0-10) today.
