Caitlin Clark shared her thoughts on a controversial call made against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday, as her former team took on the Indiana Hoosiers. Clark took to X (formerly Twitter) to talk about a technical foul that guard Sydney Affolter received after she slapped the ball from Yarden Garzon of the Hoosiers.
Referees called a tech on Affolter in a situation that Clark and others thought deserved a less severe sanction.
"Should have been a warning. Very interesting … but go hawks ! :)" the 2024 WNBA rookie tweeted on Sunday.
In the end, the Hoosiers had the last laugh. They beat the Hawkeyes 74-67 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena behind Garzon's 21 points and Chloe Moore-McNeil's 18 units. For Iowa, Taylor McCabe scored 15 points off the bench while Addison O'Grady contributed 11 points on 5-from-7 from the field.
With this result, the Hawkeyes dropped to 12-5 and 2-4 against the conference. The Hoosiers improved to 12-4 and 4-1 against conference rivals.
It's been almost a year since these two teams clashed and Caitlin Clark went off on the Hoosiers. The Indiana Fever star scored 30 points on 10-from-21 from the field, including 6-from-16 from deep, while grabbing five rebounds and dishing 11 assists.
Caitlin Clark's presence could make Fever attractive landing spot for free agents
While she's closely watching the Iowa Hawkeyes games, Caitlin Clark's team has started to work to find new pieces for the 2025 WNBA season. The Indiana Fever were one of the biggest storylines of the 2024 campaign, as they returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2016 thanks to Clark.
Her presence, according to ESPN's Melissa Tamez, could lure top free agents to Gainbridge Fieldhouse this offseason.
"The Indiana Fever have the most upside in free agency," Tamez wrote. "I'm curious to see what kind of a draw playing with Clark is for free agents. With the right addition, Indiana can bolster its chances of winning a playoff series for the first time since reaching the Finals in 2015."
More than that, the fact that Clark and Aliyah Boston are on their rookie contracts allows the Fever to have more financial flexibility to land the right players to challenge for a championship.
Satou Sabally has been mentioned as a potential target for the Fever, but other teams could make a run for her services. That said, Fever fans have been actively trying to recruit the Dallas Wings star.
